A native Washingtonian, DJ D-Skillz began his career at the age of 14 in DC’s Takoma neighborhood in the summer of 1988. Shortly thereafter, he enrolled at the prestigious Phillips Academy in Andover, MA, where he honed his craft rocking campus dance parties, and spinning on the campus radio station, 91.7 FM WPAA.

After graduating from Andover, he enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where his weekly hip-hop show “The Hip-Hop Meltdown” became a local favorite on 103.1 FM WUAG. The popularity of the show quickly landed him regular spots at hip-hop clubs in Greensboro and the surrounding areas in North Carolina and southern Virginia, where D further sharpened his party rocking skills under the tutelage of one of North Carolina’s most popular and experienced club and radio jocks, The Incredible DJ Polo.

Entering the battle circuit in 1998, D-Skillz placed 2nd in the Springfield, VA Mars Music DJ Battle to a then up-and-coming DJ Enferno, who later became the 2003 DMC USA DJ Champion. A veteran battle DJ, D-Skillz won his latest title at the 2011 Obia Music Record Pool Battle of the DJs.

You can catch D-Skillz in action on his weekly show Legacy Radio, which airs every Friday at 7pm-8pm ET on itsfreshradio.com (with replays on Tuesdays at 8pm), as well as at the bi-monthly event Legacy Live, every 2nd and 4th Saturday at Lucky Bar in Washington DC.
