Happy Birthday to the common denominator of the Wu…The Rza
• RZA, born Robert Diggs on July 5th, 1969 in Brooklyn, New York. He’s the de facto leader of The Wu-Tang Clan
• RZA started his career the late 1980s in a group called Force of the Imperial Master (which later became All in Together Now Crew) with his cousins GZA and Ol’ Dirty Bastard.
• A few years later, he formed The Wu-Tang Clan, which released Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers in 1993.
• Rza honed his production skills on Method Man’s Tical, Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s Return to the 36 Chambers, Ghostface’s Ironman, GZA’s Liquid Swords and Raekwon’s Only Built 4 Cuban Linx.
• In 1998, RZA released his first solo album, RZA as Bobby Digital in Stereo. His second, Digital Bullet, appeared in 2001.
• He began scoring films in 1999 with Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (with Forest Whitaker). He went on to create the original music for Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill films, Blade: Trinity, Soul Plane and Miami Vice. He made his acting debut opposite Bill Murray in Coffee and Cigarettes.
• Rza has since served as Artist in Residence for the L.A. Film Festival and published a book, Wu-Tang Manual, that focuses on virtues, vices and philosophy.
• RZA has a martial arts movie coming to theaters soon. He co-wrote, directed and stars in The Man with the Iron Fist, the story of a feudal Chinese blacksmith who’s forced to come to the defense of his fellow villagers.
