Mr.TBT Podcast

Mr. Throwback Thursday is a classic hip hop podcast where we talk about the music that we grew up with. Jamie and Bill are two over-40-year-old white guys from upstate New York—so why should you care what they have to say about hip hop? Because they grew up with the music. Two aging guns, forged in the fires of hip hop, here to share their love of the music and the culture with you. So, come along and let us take you on a hip hop ride, move side to side, let your body glide.

What can I tell you about myself? I am a 20-year retired Navy veteran who lives in Portsmouth, Virginia. I graduated from F.D. Roosevelt High School (Hyde Park, NY) in 1990, left for Boot Camp in February of 1991, and never went back. I have a wonderful wife (Ryanne) and two great kids. I used to listen to 98.7 KISS FM so I could hear Chuck Chillout on Friday nights, and Kool DJ Red Alert on Saturday nights. This is where I fell in love with the music. From the first time I heard it, I was hooked. The beat, the scratch, the cut, the cadence, the stories…to this day, it is my music of choice. Not this stuff you hear on the radio, or in the club, but the stuff of legend. When crews were named by the amount of members, and an adjective: Furious 5; Funky 4 (+1 More); Treacherous 3; (no, not Dickhead 6). I watched the music go from park jams to stadium tours, and loved every minute of it. I love the talent of MCs, DJs, B-Boys, Graffiti artists. I love it all. I only wish I had the talent of any of them. Instead, I will admire from afar, and share my admiration with all of you. From the first time I heard Red Alert, until the day I die, I will always proclaim “I am Hip Hop!”

I am a product of the 70s, cultivated in the 80s, and a total music buff. I love to share that classic hip hop with the TBT Posse, but I also listen to almost every other style of music (which sometimes sneaks its way into the show). I am also a giant hockey fan; specifically the New York Rangers, and I referee in what little spare time I have. I have an awesome wife (Janel) and three cool kids. I didn’t consider the show a success until I heard my daughter (Emily) start to sing, “I’m going back to Cali..Cali…Cali.” Tune in every week to hear my inane ramblings with my “brother from another mother.” Thanks for listening. Keep it Classic! And always remember….New School Stale…Old School FRESH!

This is a FRESH take on things. It is nice to hear a couple of guys doing what they love. They seem to support the classics with no question. Keeping us up on what our heroes are doing is a job that no one else is doing. Keep up the good work boys. LOVED that DMC interview.
