Salt of hip-hop trio Salt-n-Pepa turns 43 today (Thursday).
- The Queens and Brooklyn hip-hop trio formed in 1985. The originally called themselves Super Nature. They were one of the first all-female rap crews.
- “The Showstopper,” an answer record to Doug E. Fresh‘s hit “The Show,” was their first single.
- 1990’s Blacks’ Magic — recorded while Pepa was pregnant — was their first on which Spinderella contributed vocals. It featured “Let’s Talk About Sex.”
- The 1993 effort Very Necessary included “Shoop” and “Whatta Man” featuring En Vogue.
- Their last album, Brand New, debuted in 1997.
- In 2007, The Salt-n-Pepa Show debuted on VH1
