Hoping Heavy D went on a #PeacefulJourney
Heavy D would have turned 45 today. He passed away in November of a pulmonary embolism.
-
Heavy D was a Jamaican-American rapper and singer.
-
He fronted the group Heavy D & the Boyz. The lineup included G-Whiz, Trouble T-Roy, and Eddie F.
-
Heavy D & the Boyz were the first group signed to Uptown Records. Their first effort, Living Large, was released in 1987.
- Although their first album did well, their sophomore effort, Big Tyme, was the most successful. It spun off four hit singles on the album.
- They gained even more fame by singing the theme song for the popular television shows In Living Color and MADtv, and also when Heavy teamed up with Michael Jackson and rapped on his song “Jam.”
- Heavy went on to become president of Uptown Records, guiding the career of Mary J. Blige and giving Sean “Diddy” Combs his start by hiring him as an intern.
