Every day we wake up to news casts\u00a0 and headlines filled with the death of young African-American males. Holidays like mother\u2019s day bring about conversations about boys being raised in a fatherless society. At a time when the future of our young men has reached a critical mass, many are seeking ways to positively impact the youth. Author Rob Hill Sr. has decided that reading about it is just not good enough anymore. He\u2019s enlisted the help of his community to make a stand this June with what he\u2019s calling the 100 Kings Walk.<\/p>\n
BROWNSUGAR<\/b>– What is the goal of the 1000 Kings Walk and movement<\/b>?<\/p>\n ROB HILL SR<\/b>.- The walk will be held on June 1st of this year. We want to inspire young people to live extraordinary lives. Our pillars are Inspire, Impact, and Influence<\/b>. We want their dreams to stay alive, we want their spirits to stay hopeful, and we want them to be more than successful, we want them to be remembered, forever.<\/p>\n BROWNSUGAR-<\/b> What inspired you to begin this movement?<\/p>\n ROB HILL SR.<\/b> – I\u2019m a servant by nature. I like to help, assist, and build up. As a young man growing up I didn\u2019t have a big sense of identity, legacy, or things like that. However, through my many ups and downs I\u2019ve just learned the importance of knowing who you are <\/b>and living for something.<\/p>\n BROWNSUGAR-<\/b> Can you share how becoming a father and raising your son has changed your life?<\/p>\n ROB HILL SR.<\/b> – My son is the inspiration for all I do<\/b>. I gave him my name and I understand that there\u2019s legacy in a name<\/b>. I pray the way I live my life gives him an advantage in his. Everything I do now has purpose, and I\u2019d say that\u2019s what\u2019s really changed things for me. I know who I am and I know my purpose.<\/p>\n BROWNSUGAR-<\/b> As a young father raising a son can you give other dads 3 tips for raising a king<\/b>?<\/p>\n ROB HILL SR.<\/b> – Purpose. Identity. Legacy<\/b>. I call it \u201cPIL\u201d. You have to have a firm understanding of all three of these things. What is your purpose? Who are you? What will people remember about you? Asking questions like this can really raise a man\u2019s consciousness up, and when you do that he becomes a King.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n BROWNSUGAR-<\/b> For the mothers raising sons alone what message would you want to give them?<\/p>\n ROB HILL SR.<\/b> – I want them to know that regardless of how they feel, they aren\u2019t alone. We all have a duty and responsibility to one another and the men that I\u2019m working with take that extremely serious. I encourage mothers to reach out and actively look for role models for their son\u2019s. Boys need POSITIVE interaction with men.<\/b> Can\u2019t get discouraged, takes an extreme amount of resilience to raise a King.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n BROWNSUGAR-<\/b> How can people get involved<\/b>?<\/p>\n ROB HILL SR.<\/b> – There are many ways to get involved, the first being getting<\/p>\n registered at \u00a0thousandkingswalk.eventbrite.com<\/a> You can also email thousandkingswalk@gmail .com<\/b> to become a volunteer for the event as well. They can also use that email for all inquiries surrounding the walk, especially if they\u2019d like to become a vendor. The deadline for that is April 15th.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n BROWNSUGAR-<\/b> Fresh off the success of your book -“For Single People Who Still Understand The Value of Relationships”<\/b> do you have any future books in the works for us?<\/p>\n ROB HILL SR.<\/b> – I\u2019m currently working on my third book and it should be out in September of this year. It\u2019s titled \u201cLove wins, always: A book on Perspective.\u201d<\/b> Won\u2019t give too much away, but it should definitely have people thinking and operating differently.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n BROWNSUGAR<\/b> -What does the balance of 2013 hold in store for Rob Hill Sr?<\/p>\n ROB HILL SR.<\/b> – Prayerfully it holds consistent growth. All I aspire to do is build people up, in whatever capacity they allow me to.
