<\/a><\/p>\nAs a child, Doom moved with his family to Long Beach, New York where he grew up.<\/p>\n
In 1988, he started the rap group KMD, an acronym for Kausing Much Damage, or A Positive Kause In A Much Damaged Society.<\/p>\n
The other members included his younger brother DJ Subroc and Rodan who was later replaced by Onyx The Birthstone Kid.<\/p>\n
KMD released 2 albums; 1991\u2019s \u201cMr. Hood\u201d on Elektra Records and 2001\u2019s \u201cBlack Bastards\u201d on Sub Verse Records.<\/p>\n
They released the EP \u201cBlack Bastards Ruffs + Rares\u201d, in 1998 on Fondle \u2018Em Records.<\/p>\n
Doom was known as Zev Love X in KMD.<\/p>\n
In 1989, KMD were guests on 3rd Bass\u2019 classic hit \u201cThe Gas Face\u201d from their set \u201cThe Cactus Album\u201d, on Def Jam Records.<\/p>\n
In 1993, Doom\u2019s brother Subroc was killed in an automobile accident in New York.<\/p>\n
Doom, suffering from depression over the loss of his brother retreated from the industry from 1994 to 1997.<\/p>\n
The group\u2019s sophomore set \u201cBlack Bastards\u201d was bootlegged during this time, making Doom a popular figure in the underground scene. \u201cBlack Bastards\u201d would later be released officially after Doom\u2019s rise in popularity.<\/p>\n
In 1997, Doom started participating in freestyle ciphers in Manhattan\u2019s Nuyorican Caf\u00e9 with a stocking over his face to conceal his identity. He would now become the David Bowie of hip-hop, taking on all sorts of different identities.<\/p>\n
He was now MF Doom but has also been characters such as Metal Fingers, Metal Face, The Super Villain, King Geedorah and Viktor Vaughn.<\/p>\n
The Doom character was based on Doctor Doom of Marvel Comics.<\/p>\n
The mask that he would wear in his guise as MF Doom is based on a prop mask from the film \u201cGladiator.\u201d Doom is rarely publicly seen or photographed without it.<\/p>\n
In 1997, Doom signed with Bobbito Garcia\u2019s Fondle \u2018Em Records and released a few singles.<\/p>\n
In 1999, he released his debut solo album \u201cOperation: Doomsday\u201d on Fondle \u2018Em. He would release two more albums under the MF Doom or just simply Doom monikers, 2004\u2019s \u201cMm\u2026Food\u201d and 2009\u2019s \u201cBorn Like This\u201d.<\/p>\n
He would release two albums as Viktor Vaughn, 2003\u2019s \u201cVaudeville Villain\u201d and 2004\u2019s \u201cVenomous Villain\u201d.<\/p>\n
He has also released one album as King Geedorah in 2003 called \u201cTake Me To Your Leader\u201d.<\/p>\n
Doom has released two live albums, 2005\u2019s \u201cLive From Planet X\u201d and 2010\u2019s \u201cExpektoration\u201d.<\/p>\n
He\u2019s also released collaborative albums with Madlib, Masta Ace, Danger Mouse, Trunks, Jneiro Jarel, J Dilla and Ghostface Killah.
