The Chronic<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0is the solo\u00a0debut album<\/a>\u00a0of American\u00a0hip hop<\/a>\u00a0artist\u00a0Dr. Dre<\/a>, released December 15, 1992, on his own record label\u00a0Death Row Records<\/a>, and distributed by\u00a0Priority Records<\/a>. Recording sessions for the album took place in June 1992 at Death Row Studios in\u00a0Los Angeles<\/a>\u00a0and at\u00a0Bernie Grundman Mastering<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0Hollywood<\/a>. The album is named after a slang term for high-grade\u00a0marijuana<\/a>, and its cover is an homage to\u00a0Zig-Zag<\/a>\u00a0rolling papers. It was recorded by Dr. Dre following his departure from hip hop group\u00a0N.W.A<\/a>\u00a0and its label\u00a0Ruthless Records<\/a>\u00a0over a financial dispute, and consequently features both subtle and direct insults at Ruthless and its owner, former N.W.A-member\u00a0Eazy-E<\/a>. Although a solo album, it features many appearances by\u00a0Snoop Dogg<\/a>, who used the album as a launch pad for his own solo career.<\/p>\n

Upon its release,\u00a0The Chronic<\/em>\u00a0received positive reviews from most music critics and earned considerable sales success.
