Roger Troutman<\/strong> (November 29, 1951 \u2013 April 25, 1999) was an American singer, songwriter, producer and the lead vocalist of the band Zapp<\/a> who helped spearhead the funk<\/a> movement and heavily influenced west coast hip hop<\/a> due to the scene’s heavy sampling of his music over the years. Troutman was well known for his use of the talk box<\/a>, a device that is connected to an instrument (frequently a keyboard) to create different vocal effects. Roger used a custom-made talkbox\u2014the Electro Harmonix “Golden Throat,” as well as a Yamaha<\/a> DX100 FM synthesizer. As both lead singer of Zapp and in his subsequent solo releases, he scored a bevy of funk and R&B hits throughout the 1980s.<\/p>\n

Edward Anderson<\/strong>\u00a0(born November 29, 1970) is a\u00a0hip-hop<\/a>\u00a0artist from\u00a0Boston, Massachusetts<\/a>,\u00a0United States<\/a>, better known by his\u00a0stage names<\/a>\u00a0Edo G<\/strong>and\u00a0Ed O.G.<\/strong>. Although not widely known in the\u00a0mainstream<\/a>, Edo G has a\u00a0cult following<\/a>\u00a0in Boston, and an international\u00a0fanbase<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Born in\u00a0Roxbury<\/a>\u2014a working class, predominantly black neighborhood in\u00a0Boston, Massachusetts<\/a>. Anderson then known as Edo Rock started his career in the late 1980s at age 15, in a crew called F.T.I. (Fresh To Impress). They had a song called “Suzi Q” on “Boston Goes Def!” Vinyl LP compilation released in 1986.[1]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Three years later, with the help of New York’s legendary Awesome 2 duo (Teddy Ted and Special K) formed Edo G and Da Bulldogs in late 1989. He released his first album in 1991 with his group\u00a0Da Bulldogs<\/a>, titled\u00a0Life of a Kid in the Ghetto<\/em>.[2]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0The album included the song “Be a Father to Your Child,” which received\u00a0airplay<\/a>\u00a0on local Boston radio stations, and “I Got To Have It”, which was sampled later by\u00a0Mary J. Blige<\/a>\u00a0on the track “Ooh!<\/a>“. The group was dropped from\u00a0Mercury<\/a>\u00a0Records in 1993.[3]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n
