<\/a><\/p>\nOn November 16th 1999,Dr. Dre<\/strong> released 2001.<\/em><\/p>\nIt was initially titled\u00a0to The Chronic 2000<\/em> as a sequel to his debut solo effort, The Chronic,<\/em> but was re-titled 2001<\/em> after Death Row Records released an unrelated compilation album with the title Chronic 2000: Still Smokin<\/em> in May 1999.<\/p>\nRapper-producer\u00a0Dr. Dre was born\u00a0Andre Young<\/strong> February 18th, 1965 in Compton, California. He first made his name in the late ’80s alongside Eazy-E<\/strong> and Ice Cube<\/strong> in the original gangsta rap group,\u00a0N.W.A<\/strong>.<\/p>\nDre went solo after the group split in 1991, establishing himself as both artist and producer. In 1992, he released The Chronic<\/em>, which many regard as a classic album, and introduced Snoop Dogg <\/strong>on “Deep Cover,” the title song of the film starring Laurence Fishburne<\/strong>. Dre then produced Snoop’s 1993 multi-platinum debut,\u00a0Doggy Style<\/em>.<\/p>\nBy 1996, Dre had his own label, Aftermath, which released\u00a0The Aftermath<\/em>, containing the single “Been There, Done That.”<\/p>\nHis next album,\u00a0Chronic 2001<\/em>, featured Mary J. Blige<\/strong> and a new protege,\u00a0Eminem<\/strong>, on the single “Forgot About Dre.” The disc also scored a hit with “Still Dre.”<\/p>\nOutside of hip-hop, Dre has produced tracks for Toni Braxton<\/strong> (“Just Be a Man About It”) and Blige (“Family Affair”). In 2001, he won a Grammy for Producer of the Year<\/em>.<\/p>\nDre has also moved into acting. He made his screen debut in the 1996 crime drama Set It Off<\/em> and then\u00a0appeared in\u00a0Training Da<\/em>y and with Snoop in The Wash<\/em>.<\/p>\nDre’s next protege, 50 Cent<\/strong>, became a rap star in\u00a02003 and he produced his Grammy-nominated smash “In Da Club” and watched his debut disc, Get Rich or Die Trying<\/em>, go multi-platinum.<\/p>\nDetox<\/em> is supposed to be Dr. Dre’s final album, but it’s still yet to be released.
