Dr. Jeckyll of Dr. Jeckyll & Mr. Hyde was born Andre Harrell in Harlem, New York, on this day in 1960.<\/p>\n

Harrell, who grew up in The Bronx, formed the duo Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde as a teen with friend Alonzo Brown.<\/p>\n

The duo had underground hit singles on Profile Records with \u201cGenius Rap\u201d, \u201cFast Lane\u201d and the fan favorite \u201cAM\/PM.\u201d<\/p>\n

Harrell would later study communications and business management at Lehman College in The Bronx.<\/p>\n

After working for Russell Simmons at Rush Communications in the mid-1980\u2019s, Harrell launched Uptown Records, a label which propelled Sean \u201cPuffy\u201d Combs, Mary J. Blige, Guy, Jodeci, Soul IV Real and the late great Heavy D to stardom.<\/p>\n

Other artists on the roster would include Monifah, Starpoint, Lost Boyz<\/a>, Al B. Sure, Christopher Williams and Father MC.<\/p>\n

In 1988, Harrell struck a deal with the MCA Music Entertainment Group with Uptown becoming Uptown Entertainment with the brand moving into the film industry as well.<\/p>\n

In 1995, Harrell was named CEO of Motown Records.<\/p>\n

Harrell\u2019s latest label is Harrell Records.<\/p>\n

Harrell has also produced films such as \u201cHoney\u201d and \u201cStrictly Business\u201d as well as television shows like \u201cNew York Undercover.\u201d<\/p>\n

He\u2019s also produced documentaries on James Brown<\/a> and Sean Combs.<\/p>\n

Andre Harrell has also and continues to work as a radio host and also appeared with Mr. Hyde in the classic 1985 Warner Bros hip-hop flick \u201cKrush Groove.\u201d<\/p>\n

Harrell has also appeared in the films \u201cThe Show\u201d and \u201cGood Hair.\u201d<\/p>\n
