Today is the Genius\/GZA born day!<\/p>\n
August 22nd \u2013 The GZA\/Genius of The Wu-Tang Clan<\/a> was born Gary Grice, in Brooklyn, New York, on this day in 1966.<\/p>\n In the early 1980’s The GZA was known as The Genius because of his well-rounded knowledge of the 5% teachings. It was during this time that he formed his first rap group with his cousins and future Wu members, the late ODB and founder and producer The RZA called All N Together Now.<\/p>\n In 1991, The GZA signed with Cold Chillin\u2019 Records and released his debut album, \u201cWords From The Genius\u201d, which featured production by Easy Mo Bee, Jesse West and Patrick Harvey.<\/p>\n The Genius would only begin to attain success however when with his cousins The RZA and Ol’ Dirty Bastard, formed the nine man crew in 1992 that featured Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah<\/a>, U-God, Masta Killa and Inspecktah Deck, known as The Wu-Tang Clan.<\/p>\n When their debut album \u201cEnter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)\u201d, was released in 1993, The GZA as he was now known, was one of the most prominently featured MC’s on the album. Like the group’s collective debut album, \u201cLiquid Swords\u201d retained a martial arts film theme throughout the album.<\/p>\n The album’s cover was designed by DC Milestone Comics chief artist Denys Cowan.<\/p>\n The GZA has released three more solo albums since then, 1999’s \u201cBeneath The Surface\u201d, 2002’s \u201cLegend Of The Liquid Sword\u201d and 2008’s \u201cPro Tools.\u201d<\/p>\n The GZA is currently working on a follow-up to his 1995 classic called \u201cLiquid Swords 2 – The Return Of The Shadowboxer.\u201d<\/p>\n The GZA has appeared on all five Wu-Tang Clan<\/a> albums as well as being a guest on Wu solo joints by several members including classics by ODB and Raekwon.<\/p>\n In 2005, The GZA released a collaborative album with Cypress Hill DJ and producer DJ Muggs called \u201cGrandmasters\u201d on Angeles Records. \nHis 1995 sophomore joint, \u201cLiquid Swords\u201d, was produced entirely by The RZA, as were all Wu-Tang solo albums at the time, and is still considered until this day as one of the strongest Wu solo efforts ever.
