The Roots release their third album, “Illadelph Halflife”, on Geffen Records, on this day in 1996.
“Illadelph Halflife” not only contained guest appearances by hip-hop artists like Common, Bahamadia, Dice Raw and Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest, but also jazz musicians like David Murray, Steve Coleman, Roy Haynes, Cassandra Wilson and Joshua Redman, spoken word artist Ursula Rucker and Neo-Soul men D’Angelo and Raphael Saadiq as well as R’n’B songstress Amel Larrieux.
The album produced the smash hit singles “What They Do”, “Clones” and “Concerto Of The Desperado.”
